This photo will always be so special to me, and forever in my heart.
Yes, I can be a sappy girl when needed.
This is the first kangaroo I ever had the pleasure to meet, and she was the sweetest introduction to kangaroos that I could have had.
I went to Healesville Sanctuary as my first kind of “road trip” in Australia with some friends and as lots of zoos in Australia have, we had the option for an animal encounter. My one friend chose an encounter with a koala. I feel like she was ripped off though, because all she was able to do was stand near a koala. Not worth the money.
My other friend and I chose to feed kangaroos.
I’m always concerned with zoos and how they treat their animals, but what I’ve experienced from the Australia zoos were only positive.
So my friend and I were SO excited to feed the kangaroos. We were all given some food, told not to go near the huge red kangaroos, and were free to feed!
This girl hopped right over to us and began eating from our hands. She was so cute! And sweet, and kind, and soft.
In this photo I am obviously trying to get Kiki the kangaroo (her real name, I did not make it up) to look at the camera, but the girl was more interested in stuffing her face.
Every time I look at this photo I give a little laugh at the memory, and wonder how Kiki is doing today.
How do you feel about zoos? Any amazing animal encounters you have had?
