I was trying to remain calm. It was tough, but I knew I could do it.
After my horrendous flight from Auckland to LA two years ago, I have avoided plane travel, preferring instead to drive. But the drive from Vancouver to Ormocto, New Brunswick, was just too far to drive for a quick 12 day trip. I knew the only way to get the most out of this trip was to fly.
The journey to visit my parents would have me taking two planes. The first from Vancouver to Toronto, the second from Toronto to Fredericton. I was lucky enough to have a quick layover in Toronto to visit with my grandparents, who brought my 11 year old cousin as a surprise.
With my first flight being four and a half hours, and my second flight coming in at just under two hours, I knew that these shorter flights would be the best way to help me overcome my previous flight trauma. And what better way to fly than on a Disney’s Frozen plane!
I had arrived at the airport quite early so that I could get the feel of flying again and just watch the planes take off and land. When I saw the Frozen plane land, I smiled, thinking how awesome themed planes are. When the plane pulled into my gate to let off the passengers and I realized it was going to be my plane, all my nerves disappeared since I was so excited. I’m a major Disney lover, so a Disney themed plane was the perfect way to calm my nerves.
I specifically wanted to fly WestJet over Air Canada, and I can say that I made the right choice!
The flight attendants were laughing and chatting to everyone, clearly so excited to get up in the air. The overhead compartments were Frozen themed as well, and looked beautiful. They gave everyone both pretzels and mini cookies, even though we were only supposed to each get one option. There was little turbulence, and the mountain views were stunning.
The entire hour before landing in Toronto was just stunning.
I nearly forgot how beautiful being up in the air could be.
Since the flight was full, there was not enough room for everyone’s carry on luggage. I volunteered to check my luggage, so they did it for free! They even offered to transfer my luggage during my layover since I was visiting with my grandparents.
I was really impressed with WestJet, and know that I will be flying with them again soon.
I had a quick visit with my cousin and grandparents. Two hours went by way too fast.
My second flight was delayed a bit, but that was fine with me, they did a great job at keeping all of us passengers informed.
This plane was the smallest plane I have ever been on. I was extremely nervous! This flight was also packed, and I am so glad I checked my second piece of luggage as I’m not positive that it would have fit on this plane. I’m flying the same plane back, so hopefully it fits!
I had a beer on the plane (free!) and just listened to music. There was a bit more turbulence, but overall was a very smooth flight. I had nothing to worry about.
I feel like this flight experience helped me overcome my intense fear of being in the air, and I think I’ll be okay on my flights back home!
How do you feel about flying? Any nerves? OR do you love it?
