A blog for travel lovers, history buffs, geography nerds, and those seeking adventure.

Hey there, I'm..

Brooklyn Murtaugh

And I love to travel the world. Welcome to my travel blog!

I love eating local foods in new destinations, discovering ancient history, sustainability, partaking in fun new activities, and learning more about different cultures.

I worked as an au pair in Australia and now I want to share with you all that I learned from this time so that way you too can become an au pair if you want to work in a new country!

I have a full time job, so I understand how difficult it can be to make time for a trip, let alone plan one. I hope that my personal adventures and travel tips can be a resource to you. And may my banana bread recipe become your new favorite breakfast. Yes, I throw in the odd recipe or two occasionally!

Who am I?

Born in a small town in Southern Ontario and raised on an army base, I never could see myself settling down to life in a small town permanently.

From an early age I’ve dreamed of exploring the world. Friends in school would grab for the fashion magazines and gossip columns, while I would happily settle with a copy of National Geographic. Always dreaming of faraway lands and cultures that I knew nothing of.

And I am still dreaming of those lands and unfamiliar cultures.

I am happiest when I’m exploring somewhere new, and then telling everyone about it. I love to share my experiences, the good, bad, or down right awful, with others.

I’ve snorkeled The Great Barrier Reef, gone bungee jumping in New Zealand, spent an evening under the stars in Egypt’s White Desert, learned to Scuba Dive in Honduras, pretended to be a Hobbit at Hobbiton, and spent an afternoon on the back of an ATV in Puerto Vallarta.

I live permanently in Vancouver, one of the most exciting cities in the world.

I have a full time job and want to show you how it is possible to work full time, but still get to travel. I sometimes wish that I could be a full time digital nomad (don’t we all?) but I also know that I love coming home at the end of a trip to the same comfy bed that I know every lump of, the same Fox and the Hound Disney mug for my morning coffee, and all the delights that come with being home.

So yes, I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to quit your job, you can work full time and still travel!

But if you want advice on how to become an au pair and work abroad, I can also help you with that!

Fun Facts About Me

My two favorite countries are Egypt and New Zealand.

I live in Vancouver, Canada.

I am a history nerd and could happily travel the world just to learn about the history.

I work full time in childcare, and travel during my time off.

I consider myself to be a budget to midrange traveler. I don’t want to have a bad night in a 6 person dorm, but I don’t want to pay too much for a good hotel room. you’ll find me somewhere in between.

I went bungee jumping in New Zealand and loved it!

I believe that everybody should travel solo once in their lives, even just to prove to themselves they can.
