Some choose to believe that gnomes are little people who live under the Earth and are pests to all. Some believe that gnomes search for women to steal. Some believe that gnomes are meant to be slaves to humans, forced to do their bidding when the humans please.
I choose to believe that gnomes will protect humans, as long as humans protect them.
Growing up I have always found that gnomes were creepy and unnerving. Looking at garden gnomes have always freaked me out, yet we always had a few at home.
I know of so many people who collect gnomes and love them, and will always have some in their gardens.
When I went to visit my parents I was happy to see that there were no gnomes to be found.
Behind my parents house is a small trail to walk down. It doesn’t go anywhere, and after a bit only the dog can continue down the path, as us humans would never fit.
After being there for nearly a week I was walking down the trail alone when I felt eyes on me.
I looked around but saw no one.
I kept walking.
Then I jumped back with a start.
This guy was staring at me…
It freaked me right out. I guess the dog, Rocky, heard my jump because he came running over. He saw the gnome and licked it and continued walking.
Well, if the dog has no fear of the gnomes, neither will I, I decided.
I ended up hanging around and noticing another gnome. I took a few photos and declared them to be guardians of the forest.
Silly? Maybe. Calming? Yep!
I took photos, and the fact that none of my photos came up clear made me decide that there must be something mystical about them, like so many believe.
I’m usually all for believing myths, legends, tales, anything.
So of course I had to come up with my own theories about the gnomes behind the house 🙂
I think these guys are doing a fine job of being protector and guardian.
How do you feel about gnomes? Do they creep you out?
