How I stay Motivated to complete tasks
I go through random periods where I just need to do everything that I can think of right when I think of them. (Think 4 hour cleaning sprees; I live in a tiny studio apartment. How I manage to clean for four hours I don’t even know)
Or I’ll think of blog post ideas and write 7 or 8 drafts in an hour.
I get very go go go.
But then, I also fall on the other end of the spectrum.
I will feel like I should clean something, or do something productive with my day. I’ll spend all day arguing with myself and losing. It can be so hard to get myself out of the comfiness of bed and I end up doing nothing productive with my day.
For days like these I need to come up with a plan for success.
Here are my ways that I stay motivated to complete tasks on these lazy days
- Write Lists– After much deliberation I finally bought myself a day planner. I loved using these in elementary school and sometimes in university, but these days they are just so pricey that I could never let myself buy one. Then I realised how much I would enjoy filling them out and look forward to checking items off my lists, so I gave in. It’s also a plus that they’re so pretty.
- Eat healthy food. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, so starting the day off right always puts me on track. Thank you oatmeal, Greek yogurt, and fruit.
- Wake up early. I’m much more productive in the morning and early afternoon when the sun is shining. (Although right now its 7 pm and dark out and all I want to do is write). If I stay in bed too late then I have no desire to be productive that day, so the earlier the better.
- Tidy your space. If there is a mess that is in my line of vision than it’s all that I can focus on. I won’t be productive at all, so making sure that my space is tidy is crucial to my having a productive day.
Obviously it’s more than okay to have days where we just laze around and do nothing productive. But it can be so easy to allow these days to form a habit. I much prefer having majority of my days productive, with a few hours of chill time.
