Winter is one of my favorites times of the year. Everything feels so magical when the snow is lightly falling, and there are lights lit all over the city. I miss living in Ontario since British Columbia does not really have winter. Winter in Ontario is very white, cold, and beautiful.
I don’t think any of my friends and family in Ontario feel that way right now with all of the -40 weather and snow storms. My parents poor dog is not enjoying going outside for the bathroom.
The thing with Vancouver in winter though is that it rarely snows.
I’ve been outside in both sweaters and t-shirts in December, and so far in January. It doesn’t make it feel very wintry. I had the same issue with Christmas. With the weather being so warm and no snow, it did not feel like Christmas.
I have been getting very excited over the smallest things. If I see frost on the ground, I’ve been squealing in delight and taking photos.
We have had some incredible skies though! The clouds have been so unique, the sky a mixture of bright and dark. I can’t even count how many times I’ve photographed the sky the past month.
And my ultimate three photos of December!
For two days it snowed in Vancouver. I had luckily just bought some winter boots, so I could splash around in puddles with the kids I care for. It started lightly snowing, and within a half an hour turned into heavy snow. I was thrilled, dancing around in it. The parents at the school I bring the kids to that I nanny for were not impressed. They thought I was crazy.
I was so happy.
Isn’t it beautiful?!
I turned on the fire, made a tea and just sat there at the window, staring out at the white landscape. It put me in the best mood.
I brought snow pants to the school for the kids and we played in the snow after school. It was so much fun building a teeny tiny snowman!
I was so disappointed that it only lasted for two days. But those two days were better than nothing.
It’s really interesting. People think that everywhere in Canada is cold and snowy. I find that most people don’t know how to handle the snow here in Vancouver. I was a little scared to take the bus because snow tires aren’t the biggest thing here.
In the end all was okay, but people are still grumbling about it now in January.
Personally, I loved it and wish we could have had more. Weren’t those photos so beautiful?
Do you enjoy a white Christmas?
Or a green Christmas?
Did you have any snow or frost this year?
