One of the things I knew I had to do while in Cairns was to go for a dip in the lagoon at the esplanade.
I’m not sure who made the lagoon, but essentially it is a salt water pool for people to go swim in since the waters aren’t safe due to sharks, jellyfish and crocs.
Even though the lagoon is there for a reason, some people still go into the ocean and some even loose their lives. Really sad.
The ocean around the Great Barrier Reef is safe, as long as you go with a tour company who is well respected.
Depending on the time of the year the jellyfish aren’t too bad, and there are always signs in the areas when a shark or croc has been spotted, or during jelly fish season. I saw several while there.
Mega blurry, but gets the point across!
The lagoon itself though was so refreshing in the hot and humid weather, and so many people would hang out there.
I went to meet up with some friends there at 9 pm and it was empty. It was so strange seeing no one there when during the day it’s packed.
I hung out here a few times during the week I was in Cairns, but this photo was taken when I went to spend the morning relaxing with my hostel mates.
It was so fun and nice to just hang out, relax and take dips when it got too hot!
Have you ever been to Cairns? Or spent time at a lagoon like this?!
