I read the Green Gables novels growing up and adored them. I have a box set somewhere in the apartment still, and cannot wait to re-read these books one day.
I first learned about Anne of Green Gables when we rented the movie from the library. I’m guessing I was around 6 years old. I quickly fell for the characters and the story, and was so excited when I received the books. I hadn’t realized just how many there were since I had only known about two movies.
I loved the movies and watching the stories play out, but I loved reading the books and imagining the scenes in my own head even more.
Like Anne, I always had such an imagination, one might even say I had an overactive imagination.
One character trait about Anne that always stood out to me was how when she went to bed, she would force herself to stay awake to just daydream a bit before bed.
I was never the best at falling asleep and staying asleep (I’m still not) so I spent a lot of time day dreaming when I should have been sleeping.
I felt a connection with Anne’s imagination and mind, and felt so many similarities between us.
Getting to go to Green Gables and see the house that the books were inspired off of was incredible. I loved looking around the house and imagining my life there.
I could see myself cooking in that kitchen, or sitting and reading in the sitting areas in the house. I loved the different bedrooms, and wondering which one would be mine was fun.
This bedroom was my favorite. I like the color scheme, and the single small mirror and desk in the corner with the jug on it.
I love how simple it is, yet elegant at the same time.
I could see myself spending time in this room, laying awake at night, daydreaming. Using my overactive imagination just like Anne would have.
I just wish I had more time to spend staring at this room.
