I think we all know that travel is my favorite thing. I get so excited even saying the word “travel” and everyday I take myself to different places just by Googling a place, or viewing pins on Pinterest. I love going to airlines websites and checking out the latest deals. I belong to a bunch of different discount airline websites, because I love to imagine having the chance to go to every place that I can. What I don’t focus on too much though, is my own backyard.
I live in a high rise building, which I actually love! I have incredible views of the mountains no matter which window I look out, and can see the city. The views are stunning.
In my backyard there is a gym, a pool, grass to play ball on, benches, tables and chairs. In the summer there are loungers, and a semi enclosed deck with a BBQ.
Now that it’s winter though I haven’t been spending too much time outside in my backyard because the tables and chairs have all been brought inside. There is near constant rain and it has gotten quite chilly. I say chilly. In Ontario I wouldn’t be wearing more than a long sleeved shirt. Here in Vancouver I have gotten used to the weather and now find 10 degrees cold. Brr.
The other day though I was bringing out the garbage. The weather was nice. Not sunny, but not dark and rainy. And I stopped and looked around.
My own backyard was beautiful! There were pine cones on the ground, bird berries on the trees, beautiful greens and browns.
I hurriedly went up to my apartment to grab my camera to take a few shots. Who knew how long this perfect weather would last for.
It’s funny, when I think about travel and escaping I never really stop to think about what my own backyard can give me. I think of Europe or Asia, overseas countries.
Sometimes just stepping into your own backyard can show you a different side of travel that you didn’t even realize was so close to you.
