Don’t the colors in this photo just make you want to stop and stare? That’s how they make me feel, and I fully admit that the whole reason I went to Rotorua was specifically to check out the geothermal activity.
The first day I arrived, I hurried into my dorm room and found one other girl there. I dropped everything on my bed and asked if she wanted to go find some geothermal activity with me. She agreed and off we went!
We were lucky because right across the street from our YHA hostel was a small taste of the geothermal activity that we were looking for.
Kuirau Park was a two minute walk away, and is right in the middle of the city.
There are small trails and everywhere you look there is steam, and the sulfuric smell of rotten eggs, coming from the ground. We spent a few hours wandering around taking it all in. I expected everything to be grey and brown, but I was shocked with how colorful the area actually was. The blues and greens were just spectacular! And the way the steam was rising up into the colors, I will never forget that.
My favorite thing about this photo, apart from the colors, is how it looks like I were in a jungle, but a safe jungle, as there are actually no predators in New Zealand.
I took loads of photos of the geothermal activity and know that when I go back to New Zealand, I will for sure be hunting for more!
Have you ever been to New Zealand
