When I think back to the most magical places I have ever been I usually think back to travel experiences. Hobbiton was certainly magical. The Great Barrier Reef was magical. Small towns I usually find magical. But what about those small magical places in big cities?
For me, one place that I will always find magical is Max Brenner in New York City.
The first time I went to New York everyone told me I had to make sure I went there. It was a chocolaty heaven. Most who know me know that chocolate is one of my favorite things!
My friend Sarah and I made reservations for our first night in NYC and were pretty excited to go. The problem? No taxis were willing to take us there because of traffic and it wasn’t in the right direction. After spending way too long attempting to get a taxi, we gave up, and I thought I would never discover the magic of Max Brenner.
Skip ahead a year later and I was back in NYC, this time with Sarah and two other friends in tow! I was not going to let Max Brenner slip me by this time.
We were there for the weekend and had lots planned, so we booked a spot for Max Brenner for dessert and spent the day wandering about. We took a subway to the restaurant this time, and saw a HUGE line up way out the door. Everyone claimed to have reservations. After waiting in line a while I decided to just skip the line, go to the front and say we had reservations. Everyone in that line lied apparently, because they said they were looking for us because our table was ready, and everyone in the line were waiting to get a booking. Figures…
Now onto the magic!
While in the line we were beside a small gift shop with take away chocolates and souvenirs. We also got to watch chocolate spinning around in this gigantic bowl!
Lining the walls were quotes about chocolate, and vases filled with chocolate. My idea of heaven!
How beautiful is that? Also, hi my eye…I didn’t notice that until writing this post.
We were sat with a view of the insanely packed restaurant, and given rather large menus for a place mostly known for its desserts. I did not realize just how many chocolaty options were available 🙂
I ordered an ultimate milkshake in an Alice cup. I may have gone overboard.
We ordered and while waiting for our desserts to arrive (!!!) we people watched and sipped on our delicious drinks. Two levels of pure chocolate love was waiting to be seen. The place was seriously packed. Take a look for yourself.
Our desserts arrived rather quickly and they looked picturesque.
I can’t remember exactly what I ordered but I do know it was some sort of lava cake and it was MEGA GOOD! I devoured it so quick, my friends were shocked. Sorry guys, but CHOCOLATE!
MJ and Sarah ordered similar desserts, but our other friend Deanna ordered a dessert pizza covered in marshmallows. YUM!
How delicious does this look? Sugar rush? Yes please!
A lava cake, mini milkshake, mini ice cream and jug of melted chocolate 🙂 All the noms.
I was sad to leave, but we had to go or else I would have eaten the whole menu, I am sure.
New York does many a thing right, and this Max Brenner is definitely one of them.
Things to know! The location is the only one in New York City and is located in Union Square. The restaurant is always crazy busy so do yourself a favor and book ahead or you probably won’t get a seat. Unless you’re fine with waiting a few hours. Everything on the menu is DELICIOUS and definitely worth a visit! Check out the website here!
Have you ever been to a Max Brenner? The one in NYC is my favorite by far!
All images used in this post were taken by my friend MJ while in New York City. She is incredible with a camera, and even has her own website that you should all check out for more photographs! http://www.luxelleimagery.com/ Check her out!
